About ALADIN

Its objectives.....

The Association promotes the study on law, public administration and development, especially in developing and transitional countries; it facilitates the debate between academic scholars, government, private sector and NGOs, and, last but not least, wishes to play an advocacy role towards the improvement of policies and of the policy environment on ´law and governance´ within the Dutch and European development cooperation.

Its characteristics.....

ALADIN serves as a professional and a social platform for those involved with - or simply interested in - development administration, and law & development worldwide. It is a meeting point for practitioners in development cooperation and academics specialised in development processes.

Through its membership a number of organisations and expertise institutions are affiliated with ALADIN like the Van Vollenhoven Institute (VVI, Leiden), the Centre for International Legal Cooperation (CILC, Leiden), the Institute of Social Studies (ISS, The Hague) and others.

The Association covers a wide range of topics - like state formation, decentralisation processes, public conduct, law and development - and regions.

ALADIN operates within a network of mostly Dutch expert institutes, and indirectly with institutes in other countries. ALADIN has no sources available for funding of development activities or programmes. The association finances its activities though the membership fees, acquisition of subsidies and sponsoring.

Secretariat.....

The ALADIN secretariat is hosted by the Van Vollenhoven Institute, Leiden.
